Often an office move can be just as stressful as a house move, especially if you have been told to manage the project by the boss, hopefully the tips below will help alleviate some of the stress.
Furniture
Make sure you label every part of the desk if it is in sections. Empty the desk drawers, unless the pedestals are mobile. Chairs should have any loose cushions secured to frames.Computers
Computers should be spring cleaned by removing any old or out-of-date files to make the back-ups quicker. Data should be backed up and stored in a different location. You should ensure that all parts of the computer are labelled as to the desk they came from to avoid any confusion at the other end.Packing
Before packing begins it is good practice to ensure that all employees take home any personal effects that have accumulated at the office. Laptops should also be removed from the site. Also make a note prior to the move of any items that are broken. All packing should be completed the day prior to the move taking place. Remember to obtain all the cardboard packaging and bubble wrap that you will need.
- Staff should be responsible for packing their own personal items into the crates; this includes all items within their pedestal, on their desk, any desktop filing and loose paperwork. (Loose paperwork is defined as anything on or under the desk, on window sills, tops of cabinets or on open shelves i.e. anything not in a filing cabinet.)
- We suggest that all employees in the office sort through their filing to discard anything that maybe obsolete or out of date.
- Again it is advisable that all telephones are labelled to each desk.
- It is always advisable to keep all the IT kit for a workstation together in the same crate when packing.
- Once staff have packed their own areas encourage them to help pack away the communal areas as this will take the workload off yourself.
